sugarspell candles aren't just decor.
They’re little time machines, ready to transport you to your happiest moments with the light of a match.
They're inspired by the memories that shaped us, from cozy desserts and kitchen rituals to family traditions, travel adventures, and throwback childhood treats. Our scents are food-forward, because life should be delicious.
ingredients are important to us—like, really important
There's a lot of talk about toxins these days, but you won't find them in our candles. We use 100% soy wax, cotton wicks, and fragrance oils that are phthalate-free, California Prop 65 compliant, vegan and cruelty-free. All fragrances also meet the standards of RIFM and IFRA for safety and purity.
Whether you’re lighting one for yourself or gifting one to a friend, our goal is simple: to make your space feel a little happier, cozier, and more comforting.
meet your maker
Hi! I’m Angela, a lifelong crafter and foodie-turned-candle maker, scent enthusiast, and the founder of Sugarspell.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been making things. As a kid, I baked cakes in my Easy Bake Oven and wanted every birthday party to be at a paint-your-own ceramics studio. I'd beg my mum to save everything, from empty cardboard boxes to paper towel rolls,"just in case I want to use them for a craft."
As I grew up and my family moved abroad, my creative outlet became scrapbooking as a means of documenting my travels. If you're envisioning me sitting at a desk, surrounded by photos from a disposable camera, zig-zag scissors and glue, that's exactly what it looked like.
Next came my food blogging era. Mid-way through university, I discovered blogging and channeled my energy into developing healthy, whole food-based recipes. I shared them with anyone on the internet who cared to read, and kept it going for nearly 10 years. Having been raised overseas, I had developed a deep appreciation for cuisines from all over the world, and how flavors and aromas connect us to people, places, and memories. I guess you could say it was a small hint from the universe that perhaps a creative endeavor involving scent would be in my future.
Then, when the world shut down in 2020, I dove deep into making handmade greeting cards. There was something about having an offline hobby that felt soothing, especially during an otherwise isolating and uncertain time.
As I made more and more cards, I was reminded of how much joy I used to get from creating things with my hands—especially when those things were for other people. From stamping to die cutting and hot foiling, I did it all. It may not have been possible to see my friends and family in person, but this new-found hobby kept us connected in a different way—and kept my creative juices flowing. I believe that creativity is one of the most important skills we can develop, and when the result is something that brings people together, it’s even more powerful.
After a few months, I found myself wanting to send a small gift along with my handmade cards. That's where candles came in. I'd dabbled in candle making previously, gifting them to friends and family. The feedback was always really positive, and being able to brighten their day made me want to keep getting better.
I ended up far, far down the rabbit hole of fragrance blending, wick testing and figuring out how to get the perfect burn. Candle making started to turn into a passion, and I've become a huge nerd in the process.
Fast-forward to 2025. After being asked countless times “why aren’t you selling these!?”, to which I’d respond “oh I just make them for fun”, I decided it was time to come up with a better answer.
Creating Sugarspell has felt like a natural extension of my creative pursuits—only now, instead of blending ingredients for culinary recipes, it's fragrances and wax. The goal wasn't to create just any candles—they needed to be powerful little jars of joy that evoke the most vivid, wish-I-could-go-back-right-now moments. And yes, many are food-inspired because a part of that blogger still lives inside of me.
At the same time, there was no way I was going to let harmful ingredients into Sugarspell’s recipes. I want you to enjoy as many of our candles as your heart desires, all without the headaches and unseen health consequences that come along with the conventional kind. I’m super proud of our high-quality, non-toxic, better-for-you candles, and can’t wait for you to try them too!
